Mikov Lanyards and Chains: Keep Your Knife Within Reach

A lanyard or chain is a small detail that's easy to overlook until a knife disappears into grass, snow or water. According to Czech manufacturer Mikov, lanyards and chains secure your knife in everyday use and in demanding conditions. They prevent accidental loss and make it quicker to draw the knife from a pocket or sheath. Mikov makes them from tough textile cord and strong metal chain, built for long service and high mechanical loads.

• UTON cord — a strong lanyard for the legendary UTON Pattern 75 military knife.
• LIST paracord — a highly durable cord for the compact LIST knife. It comes in low-key tactical colours and in bright signal colours that are easy to spot if the knife is dropped.
• LIST ball chain — a black metal chain for carrying the LIST comfortably and discreetly around your neck in its Kydex or plastic sheath. The manufacturer notes that it is sweat-resistant and hypoallergenic.

Why use a lanyard?

A lanyard helps in several situations. When working over water or at height, a wrist loop stops the knife from falling. A knife deep in a pocket or a snug sheath is easier to pull out by its cord. And a bright paracord helps you find the knife if it drops into grass or snow. For neck carry, a chain is the better choice: it doesn't fray or soak up moisture.

How to wear the LIST around your neck

Will the LIST paracord fit other knives?
It's designed for the LIST, but you can thread it through the lanyard hole of other knives if the hole is large enough.
