The CZ BREN 2 is a modern multifunctional tool developed for the needs of the Army of the Czech Republic. It is not just a classic bayonet but a comprehensive combat knife designed for survival and close combat. The BREN represents a modern concept of a cold weapon combining the functions of a bayonet, combat knife, and survival tool. It was developed by Česká zbrojovka Uherský Brod in collaboration with military experts to replace the legendary but outdated bayonet vz. 58. The knife is designed as a full-tang construction (the blade runs through the entire length of the handle), which ensures extreme mechanical durability during prying or rough handling.

Key knife features:
- Blade made of stainless steel 420 (53-56 HRc) with DLC surface treatment
- Handle made of plastic
- Kydex sheath

The blade has a distinctive shape that optimizes cutting and stabbing abilities:

Shape:
- It is a modified “Tanto” or “Clip Point” with a pronounced spine.

Edge:
- The main edge is complemented by a false edge on the spine of the tip for better penetration.

Serration:
- The portion of the blade near the guard has a serrated edge for cutting ropes, straps, or plastics.

The handle is designed to provide a secure grip even with gloves or in wet conditions:
- Material: Highly durable polymer reinforced with fiberglass.
- Surface: Textured to prevent slipping.
- Butt cap: The handle end features a steel pommel serving as a striking face (hammer/glass breaker) and also contains a mechanism for mounting on the rifle barrel.

Multifunctional sheath
The BREN knife sheath is not just a cover but a sophisticated tool:

- Material: Combination of polymer and textile suspension (MOLLE compatible).
- Wire cutter: In conjunction with the blade, the sheath forms scissors for cutting wire obstacles (including electrified wires due to insulation).
- Sharpener: Often includes a simple sharpening stone on the back side of the sheath.

Practical use
- Bayonet: Mounts on the rail under the main CZ 805 BREN rifle barrel (or CZ BREN 2 using an adapter).
- Combat knife: Balance and length allow effective close combat.
- Survival tool: Capable of chopping, cutting tough materials, and preparing shelter.

The CZ BREN knife is proof of the shift from a simple “stabbing instrument” to versatile military equipment. Although primarily intended for the assault rifle, its qualities rank it among the top military combat knives of today. The knife is not intended for the general public.
